Care Tips
How do I take care of it?
It’s easy: as needed wipe any dust with a soft, dry microfiber cloth without applying pressure. Don’t apply any spray cleaners or water to the mat, doing that will cause splotches and discoloration.
Will it stain anything?
Some slight dye transfer can occur if the mat gets wet. This is rare, but the most common cause is if your mat gets excessively wet.
For clothes, any dye transfer will generally come out in the wash. In some instances though if left unwashed for an extended period the dye may set. But in general this is pretty rare.
What should I do if it gets wet?
If the mat gets a little wet, absorb any water by lightly blotting with a soft cloth, and let it air dry.
If the mat gets excessively wet, carefully move the mat to lay on a layer of rags, absorb any access water by lightly blotting with a soft cloth, and let it air dry.
Can I apply heat to dry it?
Don’t – I repeat – Do not use hair dryers or put it in the oven to dry it! This will cause the base layer to detach by re-activating the glue used to glue everything together, which would ruin the thing you payed for.
It would also cause the leather to become brittle and hard, and also it’s very dangerous.
Consider any water marks left over as a development character
Can I apply leather conditioner to my mat?
TLDR: It depends on the type
No: Matte finish (suede).
Yes: Shiny/slightly shiny finish (top-grain).
Leather conditioner is best suited for top-grain leather. It helps keep the surface nourished and protected, maintaining softness while highlighting the natural character of the hide. My suggestion is “Leather Honey”.
I don’t recommend using conditioner on suede or on leathers with a matte finish. These materials can react differently to conditioner, which may darken the surface, change the texture, or leave marks that won’t come out. To keep them looking their best, I suggest using a “suede brush” (made for suede) and a soft, dry cloth for matte leathers.
Any places to avoid?
Don’t store your mat it in hot, cold, or damp environments. Generally I caution against areas like unfinished basements and attics for this reason. If the mat is stored in a damp environment you run the risk of it developing and harboring mold. If the mat is stored in very hot or cold environments you run the risk of the leather becoming brittle and hard.
Sunlight is okay, as long as it’s not direct sunlight for hours and hours, which can cause the color to fade (but that could add a cool element of character if you’re open to that).
Other Questions
Any stores?
Nope, just this online store!
Custom orders?
No, I can’t accept custom orders. I have a limited stock, just the styles and finishes shown. Right now I can’t create custom mats or modify existing designs.
What is your return/exchange policy?
Because of the nature of handcrafted leather goods, all sales are final. I don’t accept returns or exchanges.
Please note:
Once your item is in your care, it is your responsibility to handle, use, and store it appropriately. Any wear, scratches, staining, or damage that occurs after delivery does not qualify an item for return, exchange, or replacement. Leather is a natural material and will develop a unique patina over time. This is a hallmark of its authenticity, not a defect. Proper care will help ensure your mat ages beautifully, but any developments to the character of your mat should be viewed as a positive!
