About
Who’s Matt?
Hey, I’m Matt Luther. I picked up sewing in college just to repair my clothes, then quickly grew to love sewing as a creative outlet. Later, a friend told me about an industrial sewing class, and that twist of fate led to my first job working with leather at Shinola.

Why?
I started making these mats to repurpose: industry off-cuts discarded for flaws/blemishes, and remnants from other leather projects. Each were hand-crafted in Detroit by me from real leather.
How (to use)?
A mat can be many things, here’s some possibilities:
- Object / trinket arranger
- Entryway catchall
- Table protector
- Massive coaster
- Sectioned grid for tidying or counting
- Cover for an unsightly surface
- Bedside table pad
- Placemat
- Desk pad / oversized mouse pad
- Altar
- Bell organizer
- Table game pad
- Purely decor
- Conversation piece
